Creative Photography: Reflections In The Dark

I am planning to take my photography skills to the next level. I’m going to upgrade my self to a full blown original “Hobbyist Photographer”. Within in the next few weeks Im looking into purchasing a Canon EOS Rebel Xti 400D. I’ve read the reviews and find this camera the best option for me as a beginner, who is starting in the world of photography.

Before I get this cool little toy I took my current camera for a little crash course on aperture and shutter settings. It is the basic thing every photographer learns in photography school.

I took a glass, a candle and closed all the lights in my room. Light up the candle and left in the glass which I put on top of a box and then had some fun taking the shots. I took many with various settings to test the different combination of settings to get the best pictures.

I used ISO 200 on all the pictures because for some reason ISO 400 – ISO 800 has a lot of noise. It said that to have good pictures in low light situation you should use higher ISO but I learned that ISO 200 works well with what I planed to take. I suspect my current camera a Kodak 4 Megapixel point-and-shoot don’t have the noise reduction technology in it. However I believe I did well with the shots for a beginner.

Just for fun I call this series of shots “Reflections In The Dark”. Let me know what you think about them.

Check out the reflection of the glass. Cool huh.

Here I was trying to get the funky circles around the glass … Somehow lost the focus of the picture to the glass instead of the circles …hmmm need to be bit more creative here.

This one was over exposed…It was difficult to get the exposure right for this one however I like how all the details on the box is bright enough to be read

Here is something I wanted to do….getting the ring like reflections of the glass to make a circle around the candle. First picture did not turn out like I envision it to be.

The second picture got better but not there yet.

Finally getting it exactly how I wanted it. Nice huh. Its all about the settings mate, get them right and you can do wonders with your camera. I definitely need to learn more about photography however I’d say I did pretty well for a first time don’t you think so?
